invention of Indian Currency symbol India Rupee symbol





The symbol for Indian Currency Rupee was approved by the Union Cabinet. Tamilian from Kallakurichi designed symbol for Indian currency, D. Udaya Kumar who has studied at the School of Architecture, Anna University, Chennai and finished his Master's at IIT, Bombay.



Now, the Tamilnadu student invented symbol for Indian currency is set to join IIT-Guwahati as Assistant Professor.

Mr. Kumar's winning entry was chosen from 3000 designs received from the currency symbol competition.

Mr. Kumar invented the symbol for Indian currency admitted that, he had refered many regional language transcripts and the Devanagari script.

Now that, the Indian currency symbol has a blend of Devanagari "Ra" and the Roman "R", it joins the elite club of the US Dollar, the European Euro, the British Pound Sterling and the Japanese Yen.



The two horizontal lines and the band between represent the Indian Flag.
